NUTS Pyhä 10 km
Pyhätunturi (Pyhä)
Race guide
Updated 28 July 2026
NUTS Pyhä 10 km is the shortest distance at the event, but not the easiest for its length. The measured course is 10.5 km with 386 m of climbing and a high point of 473 m. It runs out through the Aittakuru gorge, past Karhunjuomalampi and up to the Kultakero summit before descending back to the event centre. The start is at 11:00 on Saturday. The race is partially self-supported, with one official aid station on course.
The course
A short distance on genuine fell terrain. The route climbs through Aittakuru and up onto Kultakero before the descent back to the event centre. The footing is rocky, with staircases and stretches of boardwalk. At 386 m of climbing over 10.5 km, that is nearly 37 m of gain per kilometre — steeper, proportionally, than several of the longer distances at this event.
Where the race is decided
On the Kultakero climb. It is the clear high point of the route and comes late enough that any early over-pacing shows up immediately. For a first-timer the best advice is to walk the climb steadily and run the descent, which is fast and rewarding if there is anything left in the quads. In rain the stone steps are slick and the descent is slower than it looks.
Pacing and fuelling
There is one official aid station, Karhunjuomalampi at around 5 km. Because the race is partially self-supported, the rest is run on what you carry. One soft flask is enough for most runners, though two is safer on a warm August day. Fuelling needs are modest at this distance — one gel before the Kultakero climb covers most people.
Cut-off and conditions
The finish closes at 17:30, so time is not a real constraint on this distance. Early August weather at Pyhä can change fast: it can be still and warm at the base while the wind blows and rain falls on the Kultakero summit. A light wind shell in the pack is a small weight for a large difference.
