Restonica Trail by UTMB – UTC100M
Cours Paoli, Corte, Corse → Corte
Race guide
Updated 18 July 2026
The Restonica Trail UTC100M by UTMB is the queen stage of the Restonica event: a 110 km circuit from Corte with a colossal 6591 m of climbing and a high point of 2453 m, threading the wildest granite terrain in central Corsica. Starting and finishing in the mountain town of Corte, it links a chain of high passes and deep valleys into one of the most demanding endurance days on the UTMB calendar. This is a big-mountain ultra in the truest sense. The course repeatedly hauls runners from valley floors to over 2000 m and drops them straight back down, on rock-strewn Corsican trails that punish careless footing. It rewards experienced mountain ultrarunners who can climb all day, descend technically on tired legs, and manage fuel, sleep pressure and the elements across a long day and night out.
The course: a 110km high-mountain circuit from Corte
The UTC100M runs 110 km with 6591 m of ascent, starting in Corte at 429 m and finishing back there at 450 m. It opens with the same brutal climb as its sister races, reaching E Padule at 7 km (1597 m), then rolls through Aleri (13 km, 1578 m) and Pinadellu (21.2 km, 1428 m) before dropping to the low point of Calacuccia at 32.8 km (877 m). From there it launches into the biggest climb of the race up to Bocca Crucetta (44.3 km, 2429 m), close to the 2453 m high point, then plunges to Ballone (47.8 km, 1439 m). The second half is a relentless sawtooth: up to Ciottulu di i Mori (53.3 km, 1982 m), down to Ciattarinu (59.9 km, 1318 m), back up to Inzecche (75.2 km, 1726 m) and over Bocca a Soglia (84.4 km, 1990 m), then down to E Grotelle - Chez Téo (88.4 km, 1388 m) and Alzu (98.6 km, 1584 m) before the final descent to Corte. Every high point is paid for with a steep, technical drop, which is why the vertical total climbs above 6500 m over the 110 km.
The crux climbs: Calacuccia to Bocca Crucetta and the second-half sawtooth
The defining climb of the race is the ascent from Calacuccia (32.8 km, 877 m) to Bocca Crucetta (44.3 km, 2429 m): more than 1500 m of gain in around 11.5 km, taking you to the roof of the course near the 2453 m high point. This comes at the point where the day's early climbing has already loaded the legs, and the immediate drop to Ballone (1439 m) tests the quads hard just after the summit. How you meter effort from Calacuccia upward shapes the entire back half of your race. Beyond Ballone the course refuses to relent. The repeated climbs to Ciottulu di i Mori (1982 m), the long haul to Inzecche (1726 m) and the crossing of Bocca a Soglia (1990 m) all come deep into the race, often overnight, when fatigue and technical descending compound. The runners who finish strong are those who protect their legs on the early descents and keep a sustainable climbing rhythm all the way to Alzu, rather than those who force the early passes.
Pacing and fuelling: cut-offs, night running and long aid gaps
The cut-offs frame a long day and night on the mountain: Calacuccia at 32.8 km closes Fri 09:00, Ballone at 47.8 km Fri 17:00, Ciattarinu at 59.9 km Fri 23:00, and E Grotelle - Chez Téo at 88.4 km Sat 09:00. That timeline confirms this is an overnight effort, so plan for extended running in the dark over technical ground and pace the first half to bank margin before fatigue sets in. Crew points at Aleri, Calacuccia, Ballone, Ciottulu di i Mori, Ciattarinu, Inzecche, E Grotelle and Alzu give frequent chances to resupply and regroup. Mind the spacing between staffed points: some high stretches run 10 to 15 km between aid, such as the ground from Ciattarinu (59.9 km) up to Inzecche (75.2 km), all of it on demanding mountain terrain. Leave each station with enough food, fluid and warm kit to cover a long, slow section. Fuel consistently from the start, use the crew points to force calories when appetite fades overnight, and treat Alzu at 98.6 km as your final reset before the descent home to Corte.
Conditions to expect: altitude, remoteness and Corsican rock
The UTC100M repeatedly crosses exposed high passes above 1900 m, topping out at 2453 m at Bocca Crucetta, with long stretches on open, shelterless mountainside. At that altitude, and running through the night, temperatures can drop sharply and weather can change fast even after a hot day low in the valleys around Calacuccia and Corte. Carry layers for cold, wind and the possibility of poor conditions high on the course, and be ready for a wide temperature range between the 877 m low point and the 2453 m high point. The terrain is quintessential Corsica: granite slabs, boulder fields and rough, rocky trail that is slow and technical, especially on the many steep descents off the passes. Sure footing over loose rock, in daylight and by headtorch, protects both your time and your body. Study the checkpoint altitudes in advance so you know exactly where each major climb and descent falls across the 110 km, and pace the full 6591 m of ascent as a whole rather than chasing splits on any single climb.
